Welcome to our Year 5 website page on here you will be able to see all the fun, learning and mischief that we get up to during our school day.

Mr. Gadd - Year 5 Teacher
Miss. Rimza - Year 5 Teaching Assistant

Year 5 had a great day on World Book Day. We spent time listening to our class book as well as some of our old favourites, such as The Day The Crayons Quit. We ended the day with a big quiz all about books!

As part of the end of our topic 'The Victorians', we visited The Leather Museum. We were lucky enough to dress in Victorian clothes and we watched a Sister Dora reenactment. To finish off, we had a guided walk of Walsall, looking at Victorian buildings. We had a brilliant time.

Year 5 have been busy organising fundraising events as part of their PSHE. We shared these with each other and then received our end of unit certificates.

Spring 1

This half term we are learning about The Victorians. The text we will be reading as a class is 'The Hound of The Baskervilles'. We will be spending lots of time learning all about the events during The Victorian times, looking at different sources and what information they tell us, aswell as learning all about Walsall during this time and how the area has changed.

 Autumn 1

This half term we are learning all about The Vikings. We are reading the book 'Beowulf' and all of our writing is based around it. We have written letters of application to be a warrior on Beowulf's quest and have just finished writing diaries as if we are Beowulf.

Year 5 went on a trip to Bishops Wood this week. We did lots of amazing things like wool spinning, brooch making and clay pot making. We made dens in the woods as Vikings would have done and we visited a Viking Long House.

Today in Year 5 we spent time imagining we were archaeologists. We went exploring outside and came across some Viking artefacts. We then used our inference skills to think about what these artefacts tell us about Vikings and Viking life.

Autumn 2

Year 5 have been enjoying their class book 'The Explorer'. We are very fortunate because we each have a copy of the book to enjoy. As part of our English we have been doing some amazing work around diary entries. As you can see, they look AMAZING!
