Task 1: today’s challenge is to create a spiders web -you could use it for activities through the week. See how many flies you can get in your web and practise your Spider-Man moves under over and through the spider webs https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/

Task 2: Today’s maths is all about spotting the mistakes! You can use 5e webs you made yesterday and get so,e small objects to be the flies to solve the problems. So for the first question you will put 7 objects (flies) on your web and take 3 away and count them to see if there are only 3 left...some of you will be able to do this without even counting them! Don’t forget to take some pictures. Then finish off with some Spider-Man moves.https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/ This provides a video to go with the slides and does explain some of the activities further in child speak

Task 3: Today you are going to play a game, get your family involved too . You need a dice or a dice app and you need to roll each of the numbers to make your spider BUT you will need to roll a number 1 to start (you need a body to start your spider) feelers are on the spiders head and spinnerets are on its bottom! Then why not have a go at singing a maths version of inch wincy spider and using it to practise your number bonds to 10. For a step by step instruction watch the video on the white rose website. Find it here.

Task 2: Your challenge today is to make caterpillars, we have done something like this at school before. You can paint, create or just draw your caterpillars, you need to count how many body parts your caterpillar has and add 1 more, now how many? You could roll a dice to choose a number to start with or roll 2 dice if you’re feeling confident. Trying adding and taking away different amounts, draw a caterpillar 4 more? 5 less? Now count the body parts 1, 2, 3, 4 give each body part 2 legs and count them up double 4 = 8 so my caterpillar should have 8 legs. Don’t forget you can send me your Maths pictures, I would love to see what you’re getting up to and see what other activities you might like to do https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/

Task 3: Today we are continuing our adding and subtracting. Find all of the fruit in the house and count how many of each type you have then add different ones together. for example how many apples and bananas do you have? I have added a picture to help you.

We would all like to say a big welcome back and a Happy New Year to all the children and we hope you all had a lovely break?  Well what a busy first week back ! Both Nursery and Reception have been talking about New Years resolutions and what their wishes are for the coming year and they have spent a lot of time catching up with their friends having not seen them over the Christmas period

Wow Wednesday

This week in Wow Wednesday in the snack shack we have been making and eating porridge just like Little Miss Muffett.  We had to eat it very quickly because we didn't want the spider scaring us away.

Nursery and Reception

We have been having lots of fun learning all about different Nursery Rhymes as it has been national Nursery Rhyme week.  We have learned Incy Wincy Spider, Row Row your Boat, Little Miss Muffett, Humpty Dumpty and Jack and Jill.  Ask your children to sing them to you.  Not only have we learned the songs we have also been taking part in activities involving the rhymes.

Wow Wednesday

This week on Wow Wednesday in the snack shack we made jam and honey sandwiches just like bear took to the moon and we also made chocolate apples as a special treat.  They were delicious and sweet and very tasty.

In PE this week we have had brilliant fun on the apparatus.  We have been learning to follow the instructional words  and positional language of in, out, up, down, on, off.  It was really exciting and we were very brave balancing, climbing and jumping. We have also been building rockets and making shape rockets using rectangles, triangles and squares.

This week in Reception we have been learning about the story Whatever Next, about a bear who visits the moon in a homemade rocket.  The children have really enjoyed this story and outside they have been making their own rockers from  cardboard boxes.  In the maths lab we have also been learning about shapes and making pictures from them.

Wow Wednesday

This week on Wow Wednesday in snack shack we made vegetable soup.  We peeled the vegetables and chapped them up, then Miss Maiden put them in her special soup maker with a vegetable stock cube and after 21 minutes it was ready to eat.

Nursery and  Reception

We would all like to say a big welcome back to all the children and we hope you all had a lovely break?  Well what a busy first week back.  Both Nursery and Reception really enjoyed the African drumming as part of our Black History week.  We learnt how to play the instrument and all about beat, rhythm and tempo.  It was very loud but lots of fun.

Wow Wednesday

This week on Wow Wednesday in the Snack Shack we made our own banana milkshakes. To do this we chopped up the banana into slices and put it in food blender with milk and then we blended it all together. It was then ready to drink and it was yummy.

In Nursery this week the sock monster paid us a visit and he made a big mess muddling up all of our socks, so when we came in Miss Maiden and Miss Clarke asked us to match up the pairs we could find.

Wow this week has been another busy week in Reception.  We have been working really hard on developing our writing through the use of sensory fun using play dough in dough disco time and sand to practise our letter shapes and on top of all of that we have been writing our letter sounds.

Wow Wednesday

This week we started our Wow Wednesday in Snack Shack. Wow Wednesday is our one day of the week where we get to try different foods during labs time in the Snack Shack.  This week we had cereal and it was delicious.

Nursery and Reception

This week both Nursery and Reception had a brilliant day dressing up as Rock Stars to celebrate the launch of Rock Stars times tables and World Maths Day.  Not only did they get to be a Rock Star for the day they got to take part in some fun maths activities.

We have been having a brilliant time learning all about the number one.  We have made the number one with our bodies, found one object and drawn number ones on the floor with chalk. We have also been using one finger to finger paint hand prints.

We have very busy practising our writing and maths skills using lots of different ways.  Did you know that climbing is a skill we need for writing as is painting, using those up and down movements. Sorting, linking, threading and pushing cars also helps us to write because it helps us with our fine motor and pincer skills which we need to hold a pencil. So even when we are doing maths we are learning to write.

Reception took part in a sponsored walk to Walsall Arboretum. The children walked all the way to the Arboretum and did laps around the pathway to earn their mile stickers. Once the walking was done they even had time to have lunch and fun on the park.

Early Years fun!
