Class Profile:Miss Cole Miss Perry Mrs Walker Year 5Welcome to our Year 5 page In year 5 during the Autumn Term, we studied the Victorians. We looked at different events and placed them on a timeline. Most of Year 5 decided that they prefer living today rather than in the Victorian times. We even went to the Black Country Museum to find out more information. We had great fun! As a class we have produced short videos of our day out at the Museum. We have also studied the Earth, Moon and Sun and Gases Around Us in Science. We made solar systems outside using our bodies. In DT with Mrs Walker, we have made some fantastic moon buggies. We had to design our buggy before we could make it. At the end of our term, we took part in a creative day. We made a giant rocket that was as high as our classroom. We also made pictures of the Earth, Moon and Sun using mud rock and large canvas. During the Spring Term we have been very busy studying Roald Dahl and trying to write our own story using his techniques. In Numeracy we are really trying to improve our levels by using the Grid Method for multiplication and the Chunking Method for division. As part of our Cannock Chase project for Geography, we have visited Birches Valley with our friends at Watling Street Primary School. We looked at the contrasting locality and even got to build dens in the middle of the forest. We have also learnt how to use a compass during our topic. As part of our science this term, we have visited a local secondary school. They have helped us to understand about changing state, which is a Year 5 science topic. We really enjoyed it! In Year 5 we are able to go swimming every Friday morning for a whole term. In the Summer Term we are going to look at the Greeks. We are going to look at what it was like in Ancient Greece and compare it to Greece today. We are also starting a new class novel that we will use in Literacy called Oranges in No Man's Land by Elizabeth Laird. It is a about the war-torn streets of Beirut and a young girl risks her own life to save another. We are going to be making some Greek containers and Greek musical instruments this term with Mrs Walker. In R.E we are studying places of worship and we will write letters to the local places of worship to try and arrange a visit for our whole class. We have an exciting term ahead and Year 5 are working very hard !!! Our current project: We are hoping to hold a morning whereby parents, the local community and the local press can come in and see what fantastic work we have been doing ... Keep your eyes open for the date!! YEAR 5 BOOSTER Children who are selected will be able to attend a booster class on a Wednesday after school until 4.15pm. We will be focusing on reading and writing during these sessions. HOMEWORK In year 5 homework is given out every Friday and handed back into Miss Cole / Miss Perry by Tuesday. |
